Differences between direct thermal and thermal transfer barcode label printer

I. Printing Method 
1. Direct thermal barcode label printer: it uses a thermal printhead that applies heat to the surface being marked; 
2. Thermal transfer barcode label printer: except for using thermal printhead, it also uses a heated ribbon to produce durable, long-lasting images on a wide variety of materials.

II. Consumables
1. Direct thermal barcode label printer: thermal label paper;
2. Thermal transfer barcode label printer: sticky label paper, PET, PVC and other label media, can also use thermal label paper.

III. Durable Time of the Labels 
1. Direct thermal barcode label printer: it can't be saved for a long time, usually six months (depends on the specific storage location , luminosity , temperature and other environmental conditions);
2. Thermal transfer barcode label printer: it can be saved for a long time, usually above two years
(depends on the quality of the label paper and ribbon).

IV. Cost
1. Direct thermal barcode label printer: low cost of the machine , also the consumbles are low;
2. Thermal transfer barcode label printer: cost of the machine and consumables is higher than the cost of direct thermal machines.
